Missed penalty and ball hit the post help Farense lose to Porto

The Algarvians fought well, but made mistakes that proved fatal

Farense lost this Sunday to FC Porto by 1-3, in a game counting for the I League championship, played at the São Luís Stadium, in Faro, in which the Algarve left the feeling that they could have secured at least one point.

Playing against one of the “greats”, Farense did not allow themselves to be intimidated and were even the first team to cause real danger, despite Porto having clearly entered the match with the idea of ​​taking an early lead.

But it was the Algarve team that scared the “dragons”, with a powerful shot from Elves Baldé that hit the post of Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who did the only thing he could: he stood still and looked at the ball, like everyone else. Stadium.

In the 29th minute, the referee signaled a penalty in favor of Porto, but the referee had to reverse the decision, after appealing to VAR.

Shortly afterwards, in the 33rd minute, a new penalty was awarded, this time in favor of Farense, due to a handball by Fábio Cardoso.

Farense seemed to admit this golden opportunity was wasted and conceded the first goal soon, in the 36th minute: Galeno recovered the ball in midfield, gained meters and isolated Evanilson, who, first time, beat Ricardo Velho.

The Algarve were still digesting the missed penalty and the goal conceded when they saw Alan Varela increase Porto's lead to 0-2, in the 41st minute.

Upon returning from the locker room, the visiting team came out better again, but it was Farense who ended up scoring.

At 58 minutes, the referee awarded another penalty in favor of the team. Faro and this time it was Bruno Duarte who took responsibility for the maximum punishment. And it didn't fail. It was 1-2 after 60 minutes.

In the 71st minute, Pepê introduced the ball into Farense's goal, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Pepê didn't score, but assisted Evanilson for Porto's 3rd of the night and the 2nd of the Porto striker's personal tally, in the 76th minute.

The visitors' third goal “tidyed up” the game, which ended with the loss of three points for the Algarve.

With this result, Farense remains in 7th place in the I League, with the same 24 points, after 19 rounds of the championship have been played.
