A 53-year-old man of Portuguese nationality died early this Saturday morning, in a head-on collision between two cars, on Estrada Nacional (EN) 125, in the Companheira area, between the Hospital and Ponte Nova de Portimão.
The accident also resulted in three injuries, two of which were in serious condition, he told the Sul Informação source from the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command. The two seriously injured were two women, aged 21 and 23, with a 39-year-old man suffering minor injuries.
David Franco, Portimão Fire Department officer, told CMTV that the four victims were “trapped”, having to be removed from the vehicles by firefighters.
The alert for the accident was given at 6:54 am this Saturday, with traffic, which has now reopened, being closed in both directions.
There were 44 operatives on site, supported by 20 vehicles, namely the Portimão and Lagoa Fire Department, INEM, GNR, the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Portimão, as well as the concessionaire Rotas do Algarve.
