Armindo Vicente re-elected president of the Algarve Misericórdias Secretariat

The inauguration was attended by Manuel de Lemos, president of the União das Misericórdias Portuguesas

Armindo Vicente, provider of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Vila do Bispo, was re-elected, last Wednesday, January 24th, president of the Secretariat of Misericórdias of the Algarve.

The election took place this morning at the Interpretive Center of the Old Lota of Sagres, with the presence and representation of 22 Misericórdias (in total 23 with elective capacity).

All institutions confirmed their vote for the team that ended up being elected. This was the most representative election ever in a vote by this secretariat, surpassing the previous one that elected the same team, in 2020, but at the time with 15 votes.

The secretariat team, which took office that afternoon, remains unchanged, with Rui Ginjeira, treasurer of Misericórdia de Monchique, as first secretary, and Júlio Pereira, provider of Misericórdia de São Brás de Alportel, as second secretary.

For President Armindo Vicente, this vote «means a huge vote of confidence and a redoubled obligation to better serve the Misericórdias of the Algarve».

According to the director, «there are still many areas that the secretariat can improve and be even more useful. One of the aspects that institutions value is monitoring and promptly responding to their difficulties and doubts. We can still improve and even use some innovative aspects».

Armindo Vicente confesses that what most motivates this team «is the feeling of true union and sharing between the Misericórdias» and «the sense of cooperation that has been established with the guardianships, mainly with the District Social Security Center, largely due to the work in articulation promoted by its director Margarida Flores».

In relation to the União das Misericórdias Portuguesas, the person responsible highlights the strong support and confidence of President Manuel Lemos in this team.

There are currently 24 Misericórdias in the Algarve, one of them – Quarteira SCM – in the process of creation.

They are present in all municipalities in the Algarve, employ around 2 employees and support nearly 12 people in the areas of childhood, aging, social support, nutritional support, mental health, long-term care and hospital networks. These institutions are also relevant in the area of Historical Heritage, namely religious heritage.

Taking office, which was preceded by a trip to the Vila do Bisp Museumo, was attended by Manuel de Lemos, president of the União das Misericórdias Portuguesas, Margarida Flores, director of the District Social Security Center and Rute Silva, president of the Vilabispense Chamber.
