Support paid to mitigate the impact of the drought totals 28,9 ME on the continent

They covered the sectors of beef cattle, sheep or goats, pigs of indigenous breeds, beekeeping and rainfed fall/winter pest cereals

Payments made under the Financial Support for Drought amount to approximately 28,9 million euros on the continent, with the autonomous regions of Madeira and Azores having also received this support, the Ministry of Agriculture announced today.

In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (MAA) states that payments to farms in mainland territory, made through the Institute of Agriculture and Fisheries Financing (IFAP), covered the beef cattle sectors (16,4 million euros ), sheep or goats (9,4 million euros), pigs of indigenous breeds (300 thousand euros), beekeeping (1,3 million euros) and rainfed autumn/winter pest cereals (1,5 million euros) .

As he adds, in addition, Financial Support for Drought was also paid for farms in the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores, in amounts of around 500 thousand euros and 2,3 million euros, respectively.

The MAA recalls that Portugal “was one of the Member States that defended the mobilization of the Agricultural Reserve to compensate the sector for the effects of the drought, with the amount made available using the State Budget being doubled”.
