PSP arrests 400 drivers for drinking too much alcohol or driving without a license

As part of the “Safety Parties” operation

Between the 15th and Tuesday, the PSP detained 400 drivers who were drunk or did not have a legal license to drive, as part of the “Parties in Safety” operation, which resulted in 20 serious injuries and two fatalities in the same period.

In a statement, the National Directorate of the PSP provides an interim assessment of the operation that began on December 15th and highlights, with regard to road accidents, that 1.929 accidents were recorded, resulting in 580 minor injuries, 20 serious injuries and two deaths .

In total, the PSP carried out 2.746 criminal prevention actions and 839 arrests.

Of these arrests, 400 were due to road crimes: 254 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 146 for lack of legal license to drive.

There are 20 people detained for possession of a prohibited weapon and 73 suspected of drug trafficking.

According to the PSP, more than 24.576 individual doses of drugs were seized.

The balance of arrests is complete with 80 arrests for crimes against property, from fraud, theft and robbery.

In around 10 days, the PSP learned 19 firearms and 37 bladed weapons and more than 3.000 pyrotechnic items.

Regarding road inspection, the PSP inspected 18.551 vehicles and controlled 79.592 by radar.

These inspections resulted in 6873 administrative offense reports: 2.529 for speeding, 424 for lack of mandatory periodic inspection, 48 for lack of civil liability insurance, 133 for improper use of a cell phone while driving and 133 for driving under the influence of alcohol. .

In the note sent to newsrooms, the PSP National Directorate takes the opportunity to appeal to all drivers to drive safely, adapting their driving to the weather conditions and the condition of the road.

“We also ask that you moderate your speed, especially in areas with a large concentration of people, such as commercial and tourist areas, and also when approaching pedestrian crossings”, asks the PSP.

Recalling that driving at excessive speed and under the influence of alcohol are the main causes of accidents, as well as behaviors that cause driver distraction, namely the use of a cell phone, the PSP reinforces its appeals as Christmas parties approach. New Year.

«Taking into account the approaching festivities related to New Year's Eve, the PSP reinforces that, to ensure everyone's safety, any use of pyrotechnic items must always comply with legal requirements, as well as compliance with the conditions of use, limits on availability, possession, transportation and storage», he concluded.
