Pedro Nuno Santos wins in the Algarve with 62,6% of the votes

The final results of the elections should only be known around 23:30 pm, but it seems that Pedro Nuno Santos will indeed be elected as the new general secretary of the PS

Pedro Nuno Santos was the candidate most voted by the Algarve socialists in the direct elections for general secretary of the party that ended this Saturday, December 16th.

The former Minister of Infrastructure and Housing gathered 710 votes, equivalent to 62,6%.

José Luís Carneiro, who is still Minister of Internal Administration, had 413 votes (36,4%). The other candidate – Daniel Adrião – only collected 12 votes (1,1%).

Analyzing municipality by municipality, Pedro Nuno Santos' victory is clear, as he won 11 of the 16 municipalities. Namely: Alcoutim, Aljezur, Castro Marim, Faro, Loulé, Olhão, Portimão, Silves, Tavira, Vila do Bispo and Vila Real de Santo António.

The most significant victory was in Vila Real de Santo António, where Pedro Nuno Santos had 92,2% of the votes.

José Luís Carneiro won in Albufeira, Lagoa, Lagos, Monchique and São Brás de Alportel.

In Lagos and São Brás de Alportel, for example, mayors Hugo Pereira (Lagos) and Vítor Guerreiro (São Brás de Alportel) were supporters of José Luís Carneiro.

There is also another curiosity: in Olhão, a municipality led by António Pina, also president of AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve and one of the most prominent supporters of Pedro Nuno Santos in the region, the fight was fierce.

PNS had 52% of the votes and José Luís Carneiro 47,2%.

These general results mean that, in the Algarve, Pedro Nuno Santos' candidacy elected 24 delegates and José Luís Carneiro's 10.

The final results of the elections should only be known around 23:30 pm, but, it seems, Pedro Nuno Santos will indeed be elected as the new general secretary of the PS.
