Loulé invests 4 million to bring basic sanitation to Vale Telheiro

The Vale do Telheiro project will last two years

The town of Vale Telheiro, in the parish of S. Sebastião, in Loulé, will receive work over the next two years that will allow water and sewage to be brought to the population, an investment of 4 million euros from the municipality.

The consignment notice for the basic sanitation works was signed between the Municipality of Loulé and the contractor, Lusosicó-Construções, SA.

At the same time, sanitation works are underway in Cerro do Galo and Pereiras, both in the parish of Almancil, but, according to the Chamber, the case of Vale Telheiro is larger with the network extending 20 kilometers, which it will serve 200 homes, a total of 800 residents.

«It's a lot of work, a lot of people involved, a lot of money invested, but this is the only possible way to carry out municipal functions: working every day and serving people», said Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé.

The intervention area is located in an area of scattered housing, with its own water reservoirs or catchments. This work will last two years and consists of extending the existing network supported by the construction of a new reservoir in the Poço Geraldo area, as well as an adduction pumping station, which guarantees the supply of quality drinking water to the populations residing in the area. area throughout the year.

As regards the drainage of domestic wastewater, it will be carried out using gravity, which avoids the need for electricity consumption. The wastewater will be connected to the existing network so that it can be properly treated.

Analídio Ponte, president of the Parish Council of S. Sebastião, considered that this moment corresponds to the «launch of the first phase of the last cycle which is to provide the parish with basic sanitation».

The mayor points to other future investments in this parish, confirmed on the same day by Vítor Aleixo, namely in Sobradinho, Alfeição and Momprolé, whose basic sanitation work will begin at the beginning of next year.

Loulé City Council is awaiting the transfer of rights of way by private individuals so that it can carry out the long-awaited work on the EN125. In Soalheira, an investment by Águas do Algarve is underway that will allow supply «in quantity and quality».

The contractor guaranteed that «common sense will prevail» and he will do everything to minimize the impact of the work on the population, as sanitation works always cause some inconvenience.
