Cold, sun, fog and frost are the forecasts for Christmas

The weather in mainland Portugal will be influenced, between December 22nd and 26th, by an anticyclone, located northwest of the aforementioned territory, which will gradually move towards the Iberian Peninsula.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), days with slightly cloudy or clear skies are expected, with a lot of cloudiness until mid-morning, especially in the North and Center interior, where in some places it may persist throughout the day. day.

The wind will begin to blow weak to moderate from the north/northeast, sometimes strong in the highlands, and will gradually turn east/northeast and
weakening, it is expected that from the 24th onwards it will be generally weak and predominate in the eastern quadrant.

The formation of mist or morning fog is also expected for these days, especially in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes, in Beira Alta and in the river valleys, and from the 24th onwards, the probability of persistence throughout the day in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes and Beira Alta with the possibility of icicle formation.

The formation of ice or frost is possible during these days, especially in the North and Center interior.

On the 24th and 25th, a shallow depression is expected at an altitude centered near the Iberian Peninsula, which could temporarily condition the weather with the possibility of precipitation occurring, but, at this moment, this scenario appears to be very unlikely.

The maximum temperature should generally register values ​​between 10 and 20°C, with the highest values ​​in Alentejo and Algarve, and between 5 and 10°C in the North and Center interior.

If cloudiness/fog or fog persists in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes and Beira Alta, these maximum temperature values ​​should be lower for these regions.

The minimum temperature should generally register values ​​between 2 and 8°C, with the highest values ​​on the Central and South coast, and between -3 and 2°C in the North and Central interior.

The sea agitation will be more intense on the west coast and at the beginning of the period, with waves from the northwest measuring 2,5 to 3,5 meters, expected to gradually decrease to a significant height of less than 2 meters from the 23rd.
