A high-speed vessel with several drums of fuel inside, suspected of being linked to international drug trafficking, was detected, intercepted and seized in an operation carried out by the National Maritime Authority and the Portuguese Navy yesterday, December 27th, in waters international routes, 45 nautical miles (about 83 kilometers) south of the Algarve.
The vessel's crew, two men of Moroccan nationality, "were subject to identification procedures and consequent legal formalities."
According to AMN, as soon as it was detected, the vessel “was identified and subsequently pursued by two high-speed vessels, one manned by Maritime Police agents and the other by Marines, with two Navy ships and unmanned aerial vehicles also being engaged.” , ending up being intercepted.
«The National Maritime Authority, through the Maritime Police, and the Navy, using resources from the Naval Command, continually carry out missions to combat drug trafficking, having since the beginning of the year arrested 87 people and seized 35 high-speed vessels with around 33 tons of narcotic product», concluded the AMN.
