Body found floating next to the Portimão fishing dock

The causes of death are still unknown

The body of a 57-year-old Guinean man was found floating this morning next to the Portimão fishing dock.

In a statement, the National Maritime Authority explains that the alert was received at 11:20 am, through the District Relief Operations Command (CDOS) of Faro, and that elements of the local command of the Portimão Maritime Police and the Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters were immediately activated to the location, as well as elements of the Portimão Volunteer Firefighters and INEM.

The body was detected by the Portimão Maritime Police, with the help of a member of the public who was in that area, and was removed from the water by the Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters to the pier, where he was declared dead by the INEM medical team.

The Public Prosecutor's Office was contacted and the body was transported to Portimão Hospital, with the causes of death still unknown.

The Maritime Police Psychology Office has been activated and is providing support to the victim's family.

The local command of the Maritime Police of Portimão took care of the incident.
