An anthropologist, a museographer and an artist talk about (Un)comfortable Heritage in Sagres

Initiative by the Vicentina Association, integrated and supported by the DiVaM program of the Algarve Regional Directorate of Culture

The First Conversations on (Un)comfortable Heritages will take place on Friday, November 17th, between 15:00 pm and 17:30 pm, in the auditorium of Fortaleza de Sagres, in an initiative of the Associação Vicentina.

The event is integrated and supported by DiVaM, a program of the Algarve Regional Directorate of Culture, which this year launched the challenge to the Vicentina Association to organize a debate that stimulates thought and knowledge on the theme “(Un)comfortable Heritages”.

With these conversations it will be possible to «work on various themes associated with issues of heritage (de)colonization and those related to identities, social segregation, racism and post-colonial memories», explains Vicentina.

This first initiative thus aims to “promote a space for reflection and availability to look at perspectives on dynamics that accompany the way in which communities interact and relate to cultural heritage and heritage(s), as a result of historical and social facts and narratives constructed based on notions of identity and power».

With a conference format, followed by debate with the public, this “First Conversation” about memory, deconstruction of narratives and contemporary art and heritage decolonization, brings together the anthropologist, researcher and curator Elsa Peralta, the historian and museographer Gonçalo Amaro and the artist visual artist, performer and curator Márcio Carvalho.

The invitations made to them are motivated by «their experiences of work and research into the way in which Portuguese society has been looking at the period of colonization, namely through public art and material heritage».

These First Conversations feature Elisabete Rodrigues, journalist and director of the newspaper Sul Informação, as moderator.

Participation in the event is free, but registration is required. by clicking here.
