The Chamber of Silves obtained funding of 2,2 million euros from the Cultural Heritage Safeguarding Fund, to carry out the work “Conservation, Restoration and Requalification of the Walls and Porta da Almedina de Silves”.
The financing contract between the Municipality of Silves and the safeguard fund was signed yesterday, Wednesday, the 22nd, in a ceremony that took place in the Chamber of Faro, in which Rosa Palma, president of the Chamber of Silves, Adriana Nogueira, the regional director of Culture of the Algarve, Adriana Nogueira, and João Santos, president of the Steering Committee of the Cultural Heritage Safeguarding Fund and general director of Cultural Heritage, participated.
«The financing obtained by the Municipality of Silves makes it possible to implement a highly significant and structuring project for the city of Silves, recovering and enhancing a national monument of reference and an ex-libris for the hundreds of thousands of tourists and visitors who arrive annually in the city» , considers the municipality.
