Who wants to help reforest Cumeada da Alta Mora?

Volunteers wanted to help reforest

Cumeada da Alta Mora will be the target of a new reforestation action, on the 25th of November, within the scope from PRADE – Reforestation Project for the Degraded Area of ​​Eira-da-Zorra, and everyone who wants to attend is welcome, according to the Castro Marim Chamber.

The meeting point of this action, which aims to take another step in this project whose objective is revitalize «34 hectares of the Odeleite mountain range, combat desertification and promote the return of people to their roots», is at Escola Primária da Alta Mora, at 9:00 am.

«PRADE presents itself as a pilot project/model for the reforestation and revitalization of one of the most desertified areas of the Northeast Algarve and severely damaged by the great Castro Marim-Pernadeira fire. It also has help from the University of Algarve, which monitors and contributes scientific knowledge to experience on the ground», adds the Chamber.

This action «aims at reforestation with slow-growing, resilient and tolerant autochthonous species to dry environments, such as carob trees, strawberry trees, cork oaks and holm oaks», in places affected by the 2021 fire.

PRADE is promoted by the cooperative GuadiMonte, in partnership with the Municipality of Castro Marim, University of Algarve and CONFRAGI (National Confederation of Agricultural Cooperatives and Agricultural Credit of Portugal), being financed by the COMPETE 2020 Program, within the scope of Notice 13/ REACT/2021, supported by Portugal and the European Union, co-financed 100% by the ERDF.
