60 kilos of octopus, 25 kilos of horn and 12 kilos of squid were seized this morning, November 21, by the Maritime Police near the fishing port of Santa Luzia, in the municipality of Tavira.

During this action, the Tavira Maritime Police detected that the fish captured by two fishing vessels “was being packed inside a vehicle, which was preparing to leave the vicinity of the fishing port of Santa Luzia”.

The vehicle was intercepted by members of the Maritime Police, who proceeded to prepare reports for escaping from the auction and capturing an “undersized octopus”.

Also in a parallel inspection action, members of the Maritime Police detected, on board a recreational vessel, the existence of 12 kilos of squid «in excess of what is permitted by law».

As a precautionary measure, all fish captured was seized, and the octopus and squid, as they were undersized fish, will be delivered to a social solidarity institution.

The horn, as it was alive, was returned to its natural habitat.

According to the Maritime Police, four members of the Tavira Maritime Police Local Command were involved in this action, supported by two vehicles and a vessel.
