New facilities of the VRSA Health and Social Intervention Division were inaugurated

The objective is to ensure “greater proximity and efficiency in service”

The new facilities of the Health and Social Intervention Division of Vila Real de Santo António City Council, which are now located on Rua Francisco Sá Carneiro, next to the Municipal Library, have already been inaugurated.

With this measure, the municipality intends to guarantee «greater proximity and efficiency in the care and monitoring of matters related to health and social policies», according to the VRSA Chamber.

«The new infrastructure centralizes all social and health services provided by the municipality and ensures greater proximity to citizens, by providing a transversal and integrated response. It is located in an area of ​​easy access and close to other collective facilities», says the municipality.

The space will house the Social Assistance and Monitoring Service, housing and social action services and Social Insertion Income Services.

It also integrates the services of the Local Support Center for the Integration of Migrants, the Center for Homeless Planning and Intervention in the municipality of VRSA, the Committee for the Protection of Children and Young People of VRSA and the Portuguese Association for Victim Support.

In parallel, it adds the Health Equipment Management Center, «under the transfer of skills in this area - which encompass both space management and health promotion -, as well as the Psychological Intervention Center, which provides monitoring in area of ​​psychology, speech therapy and mental health».

The inauguration ceremony of the new facilities was attended by Álvaro Araújo, president of the Chamber of Vila Real de Santo António, Paulo Neves, executive member of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, Halyna Karuna, VRSA Health delegate, Manuela Gonçalves, member of the Clinical and Health Council of ACES Sotavento, and Rui Hilário, senior technician in the Social Intervention Sector of the Social Security Institute.

Also present were Célia Paz, president of the Municipal Assembly of Vila Real de Santo António, Célia Paz, Valentim Santos, president of the Parish Council of VRSA, and Ricardo Catarino, president of the Parish Council of Monte Gordo, in addition to security forces and various local associations and entities.

The building was named “Lutgarda Guimarães de Caires” and “pays tribute to the Portuguese writer, poet and activist for women and children's rights. Born in VRSA, she dedicated herself to several social causes, namely the «Natal dos Hospitais» event. This month of November marks the 150th anniversary of her birth.”
