Praia do Pescadores, in Albufeira, will host the 8th edition of the “Rota Al-Buhera” MTB Marathon, this Sunday, November 19th, at 9:00 am.
The race maintains a marathon and half marathon format, with participants covering 60 and 40 kilometers, passing through several emblematic areas of the municipality. The competition program also includes a 25-kilometer walking route that showcases the “beauty” from the coast to the Barrocal, in Albufeira.
The event is open to all participants, as long as they do not have any physical limitations that prevent them from participating in sports.
Classifications and prizes are awarded to the winners by category, in a formal podium ceremony, at 14:00 pm.
On the same day, the 2nd Rota Al-Buhera Gravel Trophy takes place. The 70-kilometer GPS race also starts at 9:00 am.
The event is of a charitable nature, with the proceeds from the cost of lunch among all participants going in full to the Albufeira Homeless Support Center (CASA).
José Carlos Rolo, president of Albufeira City Council, states that «this event is once again an important manifestation of the Municipality's commitment to promoting the municipality through Sport and physical activity, enhancing the municipality's candidacy for European City of Sports 2026» .
Cristiano Cabrita, vice-president of the municipality, reveals that «the 'Al-Buhera Route' MTB Marathon is an extremely important sporting moment for the municipality, not only because it is a demonstration of the Municipality's structural and logistical conditions for development of this type of national competitions, taking Albufeira's good name across borders, as well as boosting and favoring Sports Tourism at this time of year».
Registration for both tests must be done online.
The price is 14 euros to participate in the race, 22 euros for participants who want to include lunch and 12 euros for the athletes' companions.
