Historical research and future perspectives of the “Magallanes_ICC” project presented in Faro

Seminar culminates cross-border cooperation project

The seminar “Places of Globalization – Magallanes_ICC” will take place on December 6th, at 14:30 pm, at the CCDR Algarve headquarters, in Faro, within the scope of the Magllanes_ICC project – Cultural and Creative Industries Enterprise Center, promoted by the Algarve Regional Directorate of Culture and the Regional Coordination and Development Commission.

The project is inspired by the 500th anniversary of Fernão de Magalhães' circumnavigation journey and intended to be a catalyst for the creative economy, encouraging and providing tools to cultural and creative industries.

The opening session, at 14:30 pm, features interventions by Adriana Freire Nogueira, regional director of Culture in the Algarve, and José Apolinário, president of CCDR Algarve.

The first speaker of the seminar is Maria de Lurdes Carvalho, director of Regional Development Services at CCDR Algarve, who will give a brief presentation of the Magallanes_ICC project and its framework within INTERREG VA – POCTEP.

The historical research component of the Magallanes_ICC project, a component under the responsibility of the Algarve Regional Directorate of Culture, will be presented by Rui Loureiro, professor, historian, researcher hired by DRCAlg as scientific coordinator of this component of the project.

Rui Loureiro dealt «essentially with the Algarve's participation in the undertaking of Portuguese maritime expansion, in the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, as well as the respective framework in the so-called Places of Globalization of the Barlavento Algarvio (Aljezur, Lagos, Monchique, Silves and Vila do Bispo)» , explains DRCAlg.

Susana Calado Martins, hired by DRCAlg as coordinator of the connection and content production component for the cultural and creative industries, will then “present the work of connecting this historical knowledge to the cultural and creative industries, and how this can be a solid basis for the flourishing of innovative ideas and starting points for business opportunities in this sector».

The seminar ends with a round table, under the theme “Places of Globalization – Future Perspectives”, with an introductory presentation and facilitation by Henrique Leitão, professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and researcher at CIUHCT (Interuniversity Center for History of Science and Technology).

Guests of this debate space are: José Apolinário, president of CCDR Algarve, André Gomes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region and the Algarve Tourism Association, Paulo Águas, rector of the University of Algarve, António Pina, president of the Algarve Intermunicipal Community , Rui Loureiro, from the Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes/CHAM (Humanities Center), João Pedro Bernardes, from the University of Algarve/Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, and João Ministro, from TASA/Proactivetur.

The Magallanes_ICC project is a cross-border cooperation project, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Interreg VA España-Portugal Program (POCTEP) 2014-2020.
