Tax authorities warn of fraudulent emails about “late payments”

Since the beginning of this year, AT has already issued 11 alerts of this type

The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) is warning of fraudulent emails being sent to taxpayers about a 'late payment' asking them to make a bank transfer.

“The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) is aware that some taxpayers are receiving email messages supposedly coming from AT, referring to a possible late payment, in which a bank transfer is requested”, states the alert from security published on the Finance Portal.

As it usually does, AT shares an example of the fraudulent messages being sent and, in this case, the taxpayer is told that he has a sum in euros “on late payments for income tax for the year 2022-2023”.

“To avoid additional costs, we ask that you pay this immediately”, says the same fraudulent message which also adds that this is the “last reminder” and that afterwards “there will be extra costs”.

The message ends with an indication of the IBAN to which the transfer must be made.

AT emphasizes that these types of messages are false and should be ignored, warning the taxpayer not to carry out the operation.

Since the beginning of this year, AT has already issued 11 alerts of this type.
