Payment for tickets on board buses from the Próximo public transport network, which operates in Faro, can now be done via contactless with passengers' bank cards, phones or smart watches, it was announced today.
In a statement, a source linked to Próximo, a Barraqueiro Group company that holds the city's public transport concession, states that payment through the platform implemented for this purpose has been available since September 1st.
According to the same source, the dematerialization of ticketing «will make it possible to reduce the use of paper and plastic and reduce the number of trips to the ticket offices by at least 30%», the note reads.
The implementation of the 'mobility-as-a-service' (MaaS) platform, by the Portuguese startup Ubirider, on the Próximo network, is the result of a partnership between Mastercard and the Barraqueiro Group.
