Farense is out of the next phase of the League Cup, after losing 4-2 to Sporting, this Thursday, November 2, at the José Alvalade Stadium, in Lisbon.

After a victory against Tondela, the Algarve team entered the field knowing that a victory, in this group B game, would be worth their passage to the quarter-finals of the competition.

José Mota even bet on a team towards that goal, not making any changes compared to the 11 in the last game against Rio Ave, but it was soon realized that Farense had a difficult task ahead.

Throughout the first half, the Algarve were dominated by Sporting, showing some football in the last five minutes.

The first goal of the game was scored by Gyokeres, in the 24th minute. Trincão, after dodging an opponent, made a pass to the Swede who, already inside the area, shot into the back of the net. The move still raised doubts, but Gyokeres was in the game by eight centimeters.

The Leonine striker would score twice in the match shortly afterwards. Cláudio Falcão was reckless and fouled Trincão, inside the area. The referee did not hesitate to point to the penalty mark and Gyokeres scored twice (28′).

In the second half, Farense started better and reduced it after 49 minutes. Paulinho made a bad pass in midfield, the ball fell to Farense who went on the counterattack.

At the edge of the area, Mattheus Oliveira scored a great goal – another from the Brazilian who, in the championship game, at S. Luís, also scored twice against Sporting.

Still, the goal gave little encouragement to the Algarve. At 56′, Nuno Santos scored Sporting's third, in a move in which Ricardo Velho, who even had a good performance, didn't look good in the photo.

The fourth would be scored by Gyokeres, at 63, sealing the hat-trick.

Farense still managed to reduce it, through Vitor Gonçalves, in the 79th minute, but it was insufficient. The Algarve lost and are out of the League Cup.
