Debt of families, companies and the State rises to 812 billion in September

The debt of the non-financial sector (public administrations, companies and individuals) was 812,4 billion euros in September, 1200 million euros more compared to August, reported today, the 23rd, the Bank of Portugal (BdP).

Of this total, 446 billion euros related to the private sector (private companies and individuals) and 366,4 billion euros to the public sector (public administrations and public companies).

As for private sector debt alone, it rose by 1000 billion euros in September mainly due to the debt of private companies.

According to the BdP, this increase was essentially in the financial sector (700 million euros) and “was due to the acquisition of short-term debt securities issued” by companies and the effects of their appreciation. Private indebtedness practically did not change.

As for public sector debt, it increased by 200 million euros, reflecting an increase for public administrations (700 million euros) and the financial sector (400 million euros), partially offset by a reduction abroad (1000 million euros). euros).

As for the annual rate of change, in September the rate of change in the debt of private companies was practically zero, similar to what happened in August. Individual debt fell by 0,2% year-on-year.
