Neighborhoods and villages in the municipality of Castro Marim enter the spirit of São Martinho

Initiatives take place between the 10th and 12th of November

The neighborhoods and villages in the municipality of Castro Marim will celebrate São Martinho with activities and tasting of the first chestnuts and new wine, between the 10th and 12th of November. 

The season opens in the village of Azinhal, from 21pm, at Largo do Mercado, where the traditional magusto will take place.

On the 11th, Saturday, the itinerary is more extensive, with four Saint Martin festivals.

In Altura, from 10 am, there is Feirinha da Castanha, next to the Municipal Market. In the afternoon, the fair is animated by Ângelo Correia and the Santo Estevão Folklore Ranch.

Castro Marim has a schedule starting at 10 am, in the area surrounding Casa do Sal, with a market. The magusto will have a dance, starting at 00:15 pm, by Nelson Santos, followed by a performance by the Santo António de Arenilha Ethnographic Group (30:18 pm) and a musical show by Filipe Rodrigues (00:19 pm). There will still be a workshop to learn how to make Chestnut Bread, a tradition also from this time.

With roasted chestnuts and jeropiga, in Odeleite, the festivities start at 16pm, at the Odeleite Club, and are entertained by Sandrine.

In Junqueira there are festivities from 20:30 pm, with the traditional Merenda de Vizinhos and Magusto, at the Clube da Junqueira headquarters.

The following day, November 12th, it is Alta Mora's turn, which hosts the S. Martinho Convivium. The well-known pedestrian walkway kicks off the festivities.

Registration for the walking tour and lunch is now open, via email [email protected], and it is necessary to send the name, CC/BI number and date of birth. The traditional magusto and dance with Duo Reflexo will follow, starting at 14pm. At the same time, there is the Mercadinho de S. Martinho, where you can buy local products, such as honey, bread, cheese and handicrafts.

The S. Martinho gatherings are initiatives supported by the Castro Marim City Council and organized by the Azinhal Recreational and Cultural Association (ARCA) Castro Marim Parish Council, Clube de Odeleite, Clube da Junqueira, Parish Council of Odeleite, Council of Parish of Altura and Recreational, Cultural and Sports Association of Friends of Alta Mora (ARCDAA).
