Organized by The Campus — the multi-sports complex located in the heart of Quinta do Lago — with the support of the Portuguese Tennis Federation, the tournament belongs to the $40.000 category and awards 70 WTA points to the champion.

With 32 players in search of the eight “tickets” available for the main table, the qualifying includes the presence of national number two, Matilde Jorge (554th ranked in the WTA ranking), who due to the limitations of the women's circuit can no longer receive more wild cards this season.

The 19-year-old will have as her first opponent the Slovakian Viktoria Morvayova (485th and 14th seed).

Like her, Sara Peça (1060th) entered directly into the qualifying phase. The list of guests highlights Ana Filipa Santos. Almost a year after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament and fracturing the internal meniscus of her left knee, the tennis player from Santiago do Cacém (her career high was 832nd in July 2019) will once again compete internationally at The Campus.

She was joined by the under 18 national champion, Maria Garcia (1364th WTA), the runner-up, Carolina Mesquita, and also Maria Beatriz Teixeira.

Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Great Britain, Austria, Croatia, Netherlands, Greece, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Latvia, Slovakia, Russia, Algeria and Brazil are the countries represented in the qualifying round of The Campus Carby VW Ladies Open.

Organized between the 8th and 15th of October, The Campus Carby VW Ladies Open will be the first of three international women's tournaments to take place consecutively in the Algarve.

And it will not only be the most important event of that sequence, but also the most important event ever on the women's circuit to be held in this region of the country, where until now only competitions up to the $25.000 category had taken place.

Even considering all the international tournaments (women's and men's) already held in the Algarve, The Campus Carby VW Ladies Open 2023 remains one of the most important ever, only surpassed in points and monetary prizes by two men's Challenger tournaments that took place in the Algarve. late 80s in Vilamoura.
