PS/Algarve mourns the death of Margarida Tengarrinha

Margarida Tengarrinha died this Thursday, October 26th, aged 95

The PS/Algarve regretted, this Friday, October 27th, the death of Margarida Tengarrinha, resistant anti-fascist prominent member of the Communist Party and first Algarve woman elected deputy to the Assembly of the Republic. 

«Her unique example as a fighter for freedom and combat against the fascist regime and her unique civic role as an intellectual, both as a writer and a painter, deserves the greatest recognition from the Algarve socialists», reads a statement from the socialists, signed by Luís Graça, president of PS/Algarve.

The socialists also extend “heartfelt condolences to the family of Margarida Tengarrinha, her friends, her comrades in the Portuguese Communist Party and the municipality of Portimão”.

Margarida Tengarrinha died this Thursday, October 26th, aged 95.

Born in Portimão on May 7, 1928, Margarida Tengarrinha was an artist, writer, teacher, revolutionary, member of the Assembly of the Republic, activist and leader of the Portuguese Communist Party.

She was also an Arts professor at the Senior University of Portimão, as well as a founding member and leader of the Group of Friends of the Portimão Museum.
