New bodies of the Algarve Regional Section of the Order of Architects have already taken office

The ceremony was attended by around 100 architects and representatives of local authorities, institutions and regional entities

Ricardo Latoeiro took office, last Wednesday, October 25th, as president of the Algarve Regional Section of the Order of Architects, in a ceremony that took place in the auditorium of Solar da Música Nova, in Loulé.

The ceremony was attended by around 100 architects and representatives of local authorities, institutions and regional entities, and by Avelino Oliveira, president of the Order of Architects, vice-president Paula Torgal and the president of the National Disciplinary Council Pedro Lebre .

At the opening of the event, the vice-president of the Chamber of Loulé David Pimentel congratulated the Regional Section for choosing the municipality of Loulé and Solar to present the team, highlighting «I am pleased with the partnership that could be developed between the Municipality of Loulé and the Order of Architects, in pursuit of work on behalf of the community", highlighting the exceptional heritage value of the Solar da Música Nova building, which was "the first public music school south of the Tagus, upon its restoration in 2018" .

This was followed by the intervention of the President of the Board of the Regional Assembly Nuno Freitas, who said «that the house of the Order of Architects is open, not only to all colleagues, but to everyone who wants to be with us, participate and dialogue».

Architect Teresa Correia, elected as president of the Regional Disciplinary Council, highlighted that, «considering the scenario of administrative simplification that lies ahead, at the cost of greater responsibility for the architect, it is predictable that there may be some conflicts in practice, which will imply some regulatory work, which we hope will be up to scratch, but which we hope will not be necessary».

Ricardo Latoeiro, recently elected president of the Algarve Regional Board of Directors, said, in turn, that architects are «literally, those who are responsible for today, designing what will be the future».

«There must be clarity and equity in the instruction and legislative analysis of territorial management instruments, and I publicly launch an invitation to the 16 municipalities in the Algarve to nominate a representative for a joint technical meeting, mediated by the Order of Architects, with a view to standardizing understandings and priorities. And we ask that action be taken now, during this month of November. The seriousness of the situation is in the public interest,” he said.

This was followed by the intervention of Mário Martins, elected National delegate by the Algarve circle, who argued that “today we are witnessing a trivialization of the profession and the professional, and that was one of the factors that led me to accept this challenge, to try to make the best I can for my colleagues».

«Another was the lack of quality of the territory, trying to counteract a moment that I consider sad for architecture, guessing that the new legislation that is coming foresees that we will have a fight to fight, of which I feel a duty to be part», he added.

Finally, to conclude the interventions, Avelino Oliveira, president of the Order of Architects, informed that, having taken office 15 days ago, he will, for the first time at the inauguration of a regional body, speak about what has already been done in these two weeks by the National Board of Directors.

«A protocol of understanding was signed with INR, LNEC, OE and OET to standardize interpretations of the Accessibility Decree-Law and its restructuring, as well as participation in the drafting of the new Construction Code», he said.

Avelino Oliveira also praised the leverage of a working group made up of professional orders and associations to establish the Single Project Submission Platform (PEPU), with work being carried out to survey the Municipalities that already use electronic platforms, starting in the Algarve.
