Admission is free

“Water heritage in the Western Mediterranean: Water capture, distribution and management systems”. This is the theme of an international colloquium taking place on the 12th and 13th of October, at the Convento do Espírito Santo, in Loulé.

The event, organized by the University of Algarve, in partnership with several academic and cultural entities, including the Municipality of Loulé, will feature experts who will share their research into water capture, distribution and management systems in Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.

The parsimonious management of water constitutes one of the fundamental dimensions of the history of the Mediterranean with expression at the level of landscape construction, production architectures and intangible culture.

The colloquium aims to deepen knowledge of local communities and the transmission of knowledge between generations and territories, as well as recognizing the different expressions of this heritage depending on ecological conditions and ways of building and living.

This is also an opportunity to discuss new solutions to be developed in the context of the climate emergency and water crisis affecting the Western Mediterranean.

Admission is free, upon prior registration. here
