Man in need of medical care was rescued from Cruzeiro off the Algarve

The man was later taken to a hospital

A 79-year-old Argentine man was rescued from a cruise ship sailing off the Algarve and taken to hospital, due to a blood circulation problem in one of his legs, last night.

The request for assistance was made at 19:43 pm by the crew of the Panama-flagged ship MSC ORCHESTRA, which was located approximately 30 miles, the equivalent of 56 kilometers, southeast of Faro.

«CODUMAR was immediately informed and assessed the victim's condition, considering the situation as an urgent medical rescue», describes the Portuguese Navy.

«In the case of an urgent medical rescue and due to the proximity to land, the rescue action was coordinated with the Port Authority of Olhão, which engaged the ISN SR-37 boat, which went to the ship and disembarked the passenger» , he added.

The boat docked at the Olhão Lifeguard Station, around 23pm, and the passenger was transported by ambulance to a hospital unit.
