Climbers from the Algarve and other parts of the country will promote a coastal cleaning action in Sagres, on the slope next to Forte do Beliche, known as Pontal Gordo, on Saturday, the 4th, from 10 am.

The idea is to intervene in an area «where a sharp increase in the accumulation of rubbish has been observed over the last few years», according to the organization of the event, in charge of climbing promoting entities at regional and national level.

«The primary objective of this action is to bring together the climbing community with public and private entities, local associations and the general public in a joint action to remove a lot of rubbish accumulated at the top of some of the most emblematic cliffs in Sagres, where people practice rock climbing», he adds.

The objective is also to “raise awareness among everyone involved about the benefits of climbing not only as a driver of development for the local economy but also for the preservation of the natural environment and the promotion of an active and healthy lifestyle for its citizens”.

Registration for this action, which will take place between 10:00 am and 18:00 pm, must be made through this link or by email at [email protected].

A convivial lunch is planned, between 13:30 pm and 15:00 pm, at which the artist Xicogaivota will be present and create, from the collected trash, an artistic piece.

This action is an initiative of the Vertigo Climbing Club co-organized in partnership with Vertical – ADR Climbing Center, AMEA – Algarve Mountaineering and Climbing Association, SAFE – Aventuras Verticais and Yupik Outdoor Store. It has the support of the Municipality of Vila do Bispo, the artist Xicogaivota, the Portuguese Federation of Competitive Climbing and the Camping and Mountaineering Federation of Portugal and is sponsored by Vertigo Rocódromo Lisboa.
