Another 1,6 tons of drugs seized off the Algarve

This was yet another action to combat drug trafficking that brought together the National Maritime Authority, the Navy and the Portuguese Air Force

1,6 tonnes of hashish were seized on the night of this Wednesday, September 6th, from a high-speed vessel, off the coast of the Algarve. Six men were also arrested. 

This was yet another action to combat drug trafficking that brought together the National Maritime Authority, the Navy and the Portuguese Air Force.

This time, the seizure took place 50 nautical miles, around 93 kilometers, southeast of Portugal.

In total, 46 bales of hashish (1,6 tons) were seized, as well as the boat on which they were transported, as well as six jerricans of fuel.

The six crew members of the vessel, all men, of Moroccan and Spanish nationalities, aged between 21 and 48, were also arrested

 

 

 

All were “sent to land and subject to the necessary procedures” regarding “their identification”, explain the authorities.

Two vessels participated in the operation, one operated by the Maritime Police and the other by Marines, a Navy ship and an Air Force helicopter.

The National Maritime Authority, the Portuguese Navy and Air Forcea has been intensifying these missions to combat drug trafficking in the Algarve. 

Since the beginning of the year, 78 people have been arrested and 32 high-speed boats with around 33 tons of drugs have been seized.
