Young people returned to guard the forest during the summer in Loulé

The initiative, promoted by Loulé Civil Protection, had the support of the parish councils of Alte, Ameixial, Salir and União de Freguesias Querença, Tôr and Benafim

56 young people, aged between 12 and 17, participated, in July and August, in the “Forest Surveillance – Young Volunteers” program in Loulé. 

The brigades monitored, every other day, for two weeks, rural areas in the different parishes of the municipality of Loulé. The young people were accompanied by a monitor.

The action aimed to prevent and detect forest fires, raise awareness and inform the population, in addition to learning related to forest fires and outdoor walks and the appreciation of environmental heritage, the program promotes interpersonal relationships between group elements.

At the end of each brigade, participants had the opportunity to visit the Advanced Civil Protection Unit in Vale Maria Dias, where the meeting took place with the Municipal Forestry Intervention Teams and Forest Sappers of the Municipality.

The young people came into direct contact with the equipment used by the teams in their daily activity during the period of greatest fire risk, as well as with the GNR horse brigade that collaborates with the same objective and is based in this building in the summer.
