Film Club of Faro pays homage to Graça Lobo

Graça Lobo passed away in December 2022

The Film Club of Faro (CCF) will begin, on September 26th, a program in honor of Graça Lobo, former vice-president and unavoidable figure of the CCF, who passed away in December 2022.

Born in Lisbon, on September 26, 1956, and having moved to Faro Still young, Graça Lobo joined the Cineclube de Faro (CCF) in 1979, motivated by her passion for Cinema since her childhood.

He was vice-president of the Board between 1996 and 2012 and between 2012 and 2021, Vice-chaired the Board of the General Assembly. In 2015 she joined the CCF Training Section, together with Isa Catarina Mateus and Élio Vicente.

An unavoidable figure in the history of the CCF, he gave impetus to numerous activities, including the co-organization, with Anabela Moutinho, of the “Os Bons da Fita” catalogs – unpublished testimonies by Portuguese directors, ed. CCF/Inatel (1996) and “António Reis and Margarida Cordeiro – the poetry of the earth”, ed. film club Faro and Cinemateca Portuguesa (1997) or activities such as the tribute to Mário Viegas, or more recently “O Dia do Cinematographer” or “Zoom In”.

In the field of training, she was co-author and coordinator, with Anabela Moutinho, of the JCE Program – Youth/Cinema/School, since 1997, a program then supervised by the Regional Directorate of Education of the Algarve. And at national level, she was the first coordinator of the National Cinema Plan – an initiative by the government areas of Culture and Education, to promote cinema literacy among school audiences.

The tribute from the Cineclube de Faro, which has the support of the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, the General Directorate of School Establishments – Directorate of Services for the Algarve Region, the Municipal Council of Faro, from the Algarve Regional Directorate of IPDJ, among other partners, begins symbolically on the 26th of September and will run over the next few months and extending to 2024, with a set of initiatives.

For this tribute, the CCF involved collaborators, film clubs and people close to Graça Lobo, challenging them to contribute testimonies/memories that will be compiled in a Catalog, which will be launched on December 28th – Cinematographer Day.

From the 26th of September, an extensive Cinema Cycle will also begin, based on a selection of titles suggested by participants in the catalogue, which will take place in schools in the Algarve and in the CCF's usual spaces.
