Graça Lobo, the first Coordinator of the National Cinema Plan, dies

Graça Lobo was born in Lisbon, but moved to Faro still young

Maria da Graça Silva Lobo, the first coordinator of the National Film Plan, has died. 

In a note of regret, the regional director of Culture of the Algarve «deeply» regrets the death of Graça Lobo, who was born in Lisbon, but came to live Faro still young. Graça Lobo, 66 years old, was admitted to the hospital in Faro, where he died.

With a degree in History, she defended her Master's thesis in Cultural Management on Training Audiences for Cinema, an area of ​​knowledge to which she dedicated her entire professional and academic life.

She was co-author and Coordinator of the JCE – Juventude/Cinema/Escola Programme, since the 1997/98 school year, of the then Regional Directorate of Education of the Algarve, a project that she never abandoned and that continues, even today, in many schools.

«Recognition of its value, at national level, came when a pilot year of the National Cinema Plan was created (an initiative by the governmental areas of Culture and Education, to promote cinema literacy among school audiences) of which Graça Lobo took part, having continued in the Project Group for the National Cinema Plan, as one of the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, having become its first coordinator», says the Regional Directorate for Culture.

Between 1994 and 2001, Graça Lobo was also a visiting professor at the University of Algarve, where she taught Cinema subjects.

He carried out and promoted dozens of Training actions in Film Literacy, throughout the country, as well as gave conferences and lectures, in the country and abroad, in addition to having integrated several cinema juries.

He became a film club member in 1980. He was vice-president of the Film Club Faro (CCF), from 1996 to 2008, and, between 2015 and 2018, member of the CCF Training Committee. Currently, he was vice-president of the General Assembly of this film club.

In 2019, he joined the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, for the area of ​​Educational Services, to implement the HArPA program: Stories, Art and Heritage of the Algarve.

In her note, the regional director of Culture of the Algarve, «on her own behalf, that of the institution and all her colleagues, sends her deepest condolences to the bereaved family and friends».
