Audio walk, theater and lots of inclusion mark the end of the “DeVIR na Horta da Areia” project

From October 14th

An audio walk, a theater play, a colloquium on inclusion and the launch of a publication will mark, between October 14th and December 9th, the end of the collaborative project “DeVIR na Horta da Areia”, which this cultural structure held in the Farense social neighborhood.

This is a project that «involves a group of Portuguese gypsy women who live in the Horta da Areia neighborhood and women who regularly attend CAPa – Centro de Artes Performativas do Algarve», according to DeVIR.

On the 14th and 15th of October, the Travessia audio walk will take place, «a walk divided into seven stations, which includes a boat trip in the Ria Formosa and ends in a party, with a concert, by a group of gypsy musicians».

This is a participatory creation directed by actors Miguel Ponte, Nuno Preto and Teresa Vaz, «which travels through the city of Faro and the contexts of the two groups of women involved in the project».

On December 6th, at the Penha Campus of the University of Algarve, the “Inclusion” colloquium will be held, «a moment in which the expectations of everyone involved are confronted with what the project has effectively achieved and the ballast it could leave . This is, above all, a moment of sharing with the community and the city about the development of these three years of work».

To mark the end of DeVIR in Horta da Areia, the theater show “Travessia” will be rerun on December 9th, at CAPa, Centro de Artes Performativas do Algarve.

This multimedia show, staged by Pedro Alves, is a participatory creation «originated in artistic practices for social inclusion, developed by 23 women», in which theater and dance, cinema and music, literature and visual arts.

On the same occasion, the publication “DeVIR na Horta da Areia” will be launched, «the record of a three-year journey of work, which could serve as a consultation tool for those who want to develop collaborative projects that cross the social and the artistic».

Developed within the scope of the PARTIS & Art for Change Program of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the “la Caixa” Foundation, “DeVIR na Horta da Areia” is the result of a partnership between DeVIR, an association of cultural activities, the Vítor Reis Morais Foundation / Community Center of Horta da Areia and the Municipal Council of Faro.
