Algarvian Ingrid Fortunato is 2nd in the sailing competition held in the Douro

In the Women on Water competition at Lusíadas Saúde Porto Sailing

Algarve sailor Ingrid Fortunato came in 2nd place in the Women on Water competition at Lusíadas Saúde Porto Sailing, a competition for women's teams that took place this weekend on the Douro River, next to the banks of Gaia and Porto.

Ingrid Fortunato was part of the “Miúdas on Fire!” team, with Margarida Aguiar at the helm, who finished the race in second place – last year they were the winners – behind “Team Cocomelon”, led by Olympic sailor Marina Lobato. Closing the podium was the team of fellow Olympian Sara Carmo, “SaltyBow”.

In total, seven crews were on the water, totaling 35 sailors, who carried out 23 races over the course of two days. The four best-ranked teams competed in the final on Sunday afternoon, with the winner being found at the end of the third race.

«There were two days of intense regattas, with a lot of competitiveness and where the fleet demonstrated its great level, with the presence of some of the main national sailors, including Olympians Sara Carmo (present at the OJs in London and Rio de Janeiro) and Mariana Lobato (OJ of London)», describes the organization.

At the end of the championship, Lusíadas Porto Sailing was certified by the Clean Regattas program, from the global association Sailors For the Sea, which distinguishes the organization of events based on sustainable materials, in all its dimensions. The classification obtained was “Gold”, fulfilling 17 of the 20 evaluation indices.
