Olhão lifeguard rescues missing Frenchman in Ria Formosa

Alert was given by the man's wife

This afternoon, the crew of the Olhão Lifeguard rescued a 73-year-old man of French nationality who had disappeared after leaving the Cavacos beach in that city by kayak.

The alert was received at 16:00 pm, through the man's wife, informing that her husband had left in a kayak from Praia dos Cavacos at 14:15 pm and had not yet returned.

The lifeguard left immediately to search between Armona and Fuseta, while the elements of the “SeaWatch” project searched on land.

The Frenchman ended up being spotted at 16:25 pm between Praia dos Cavacos and Fuseta.

The lifeboat crew found that the man was "tired and having difficulty returning to land due to the strong wind", but did not need medical assistance. He was eventually transported to Olhão, «where he arrived safely».
