The Algarve Tourism Board is already in contact with Rota Vicentina and other entities that manage trails dedicated to Nature Tourism, in order to «look for solutions» and «work on a set of responses» to the destruction caused by the fire that broke out in Odemira in the past and spread to Aljezur and Monchique.
In statements to the Sul Informação, André Gomes, president of RTA, revealed that in recent days he has been in contact with the associations that «manage these trails, that manage these routes, in terms of tourism, in terms of what is also the intervention in the territory and in terms of the landscape» , to understand the situation on the ground.
«Since the beginning of the fire and, mainly, since the fire moved towards the Algarve, I tried to follow very closely with the mayors of Aljezur and Monchique, what was the impact on the territory and, in particular , obviously, in what are the tourist infrastructures that we have in that territory», he revealed.
Although, for now, there is no knowledge of «any tourist infrastructure in the Algarve that has suffered in a relevant way, with the fires» – contrary to what happened in Odemira -, «we had a big impact in terms of what the landscape of these councils is, mainly there in the area of Aljezur, in the area of Odeceixe».
«We have a considerable impact on some trails on the Rota Vicentina and, in that sense, we are also in contact with the nature tourism associations in that area, in that territory, we are already working on responses and looking for solutions», assured the president of the Algarve tourism.
On Wednesday, Rota Vicentina held a first meeting with the RTA «in order, precisely, to find solutions and answers to what was the impact on nature, but also on some equipment related to the signage of these trails».
Today, Rota Vicentina left «hopeful» of a meeting held with the affected municipalities, the Government and businessmen.
André Gomes recommends «an immediate response» and rapid progress «for projects that restore, as quickly as possible, the natural beauty that we have in that territory».
The president of Turismo do Algarve admits to using a model similar to the one that was applied after the Monchique and Silves fire in 2018.
«We are now going to build the project, we are going to look for the right partners for this and we are going to react and restore what is our natural heritage, which is so characteristic of the Algarve», he concluded.
