Information was given today by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education

Almost six thousand students who entered the first phase of the National Competition for Access to Higher Education will receive a scholarship, the government said today, noting that the scholarships will be paid in September.

In a statement, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education says that 5.862 students placed in the first phase of the competition, whose results were released on Sunday, have already been informed that they will receive a scholarship during the 2023/2024 school year.

The support, given to students benefiting from family allowances up to the third tier, will be paid in September.

«This year, for the first time, decisions on scholarship applications for the placement phase of higher education candidates were brought forward. This measure anticipates, in a very relevant way, the allocation and payment of scholarships», writes the guardianship.

Soon, the granting of +Superior scholarships will also be announced, aimed at supporting the retention of students in institutions located in the interior of the country.

This year, the Government has extended the eligibility threshold, increased the maximum value of the scholarship, as well as the accommodation complements compared to the previous academic year, paid to scholarship students who cannot find a room in university residences, above the increase in the average price of private accommodation.

In the same statement, the Government ensures that it "will continue to monitor the evolution of the accommodation situation for higher education students, being available to reinforce support, in order to mitigate the difficulties of students and families in accessing affordable accommodation".

Almost 50 students were placed in the first phase of the National Competition for Access to Higher Education, a number slightly below that recorded last year, but which represents the entry of 84% of candidates.

Of the 59.073 students who now applied for higher education, 49.438 were placed, 0,7% less than in the same phase of the competition held last year, with 16% of the candidates remaining outside, who will now be able to compete in the second phase, with about five thousand jobs.
