A fire that has been raging since around 14:15 pm this Monday in the parish of Bordeira, in Aljezur, "is yielding to the means" and there is the expectation on the part of Vítor Vaz Pinto, 1st regional commander of Emergency and Civil Protection, that it can still be debunked today.

In statements to the Sul Informação, commander Vaz Pinto said that the action of the firefighters is bearing fruit and that, «in principle, it is to be resolved today», despite not hiding that, «as always, the situation is worrying».

«Our concern is to protect the existing houses in Bordeira, a small town, and scattered houses that exist in that place», he said.

The fire is raging near the road that leaves the EN120 towards Vila do Bispo, even before Carrapateira, a road that is cut off from traffic.

«We have two planes, two helicopters, 59 operators and 15 vehicles», concluded Vítor Vaz Pinto.

In the village of Odeceixe, also in the municipality of Aljezur, which was surrounded by flames and where the fire threatened and reached homes, the situation «is calmer», admitted José Gonçalves, mayor of Aljezurense, in statements to the Sul Informação, but still unresolved, «since there is still an area where it is burning».

According to RTP3, the place that inspires the most care, in Odeceixe, is Montinho das Quadras, where there was a violent rekindling of this fire which, despite having already entered the territory of the Algarve, is the same one that has been working since Saturday in Odemira, starting in Baiona, in the parish of São Teotónio.

José Gonçalves also said he had indication that there were houses affected by the flames, but he still could not say how many or what damage they suffered.
