the fire which broke out this Saturday in São Teotónio, in the municipality of Odemira, has spread to the neighboring municipality of Aljezur and is already «on the perimeter of the town» of Odeceixe, revealed to the Sul Informação José Gonçalves, Mayor of Aljezur.

According to the mayor, “a series of means” are already in place to fight the flames and “there are roads blocked”.

José Gonçalves ended up not being able to provide further details as he had to focus on fighting the fire.

Around 15 pm, RTP00 said that the EN3 road had already been cut in Maria Vinagre, between Odeceixe and Rogil, in the municipality of Aljezur, and that there are houses, small businesses and restaurants without electricity.

The advancing and intensifying fire also predicts that there may be a need to evacuate more locations and remove more people from their homes.

Yesterday, Sunday, and today, during the night, four locations in the municipality of Odemira were evacuated (Vale dos Alhos, Vale de Água, Choça dos Vales and Relva Grande) and a Rural Tourism unit, with a total of more than 100 people evacuated.

This morning, during a briefing, Hélder Guerreiro, mayor of Odemira, revealed that about a hundred people were still outside their homes, of which a good part were «from rural tourism that had to be evacuated during the night, already in the area close to the Algarve» .

The mayor of Odemira also said that more spaces were already being prepared to accommodate people, including in Zambujeira do Mar.

Incidentally, the sports pavilion in this coastal town is already hosting around fifty people who were removed today, as a precaution, from Zambujeira de Baixo and surroundings.

As far as we know, there are no houses consumed by the fire, although the flames have already caused injuries to animals, namely calves on a farm.

This Monday, around 15:30 pm, the fire was fought with three operational 712 fronts, supported by 229 vehicles and eight air assets.
