Canoeing: João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista World Champions in K2 500

Canoeists João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista were crowned world champions in the K2 500 meters today at the championships in Duisburg, Germany, qualifying for the Paris2024 Olympic Games.

The Portuguese duo, who needed to be in the top six to guarantee their presence in the Games, completed the race in 1.29,037 minutes, 47 thousandths of a second faster than the second-placed duo, formed by the Hungarians Bence Nadas and Balint Kopasz.

Fernando Pimenta had already secured his place for Portugal in K1 1.000 meters, with gold in Duisburg, while Teresa Portela is waiting for her to become official in K1 500 meters.
