Tavira hosts 700 World Youth Day pilgrims

From Argentina, Canada, Colombia, South Korea, Northern Mariana Islands, Madagascar, Mexico, Mozambique, Uruguay, Zimbabwe and the Philippines

Tavira hosts, until the 31st of July, 700 pilgrims, for the “Days in the Dioceses”, which prepare the World Youth Day (WYD), taking place in Lisbon, between the 1st and 6th of August.

The “Days in the Dioceses” promote the integration of young people in parish communities, in the various dioceses of the country. During these days, participants can get to know better the region that welcomes them, as well as the local Church and its specificities, staying, as in the WYD week, in public, parish facilities or in family homes.

In order to make it possible to welcome these young people in the municipality, in addition to providing municipal facilities, the Tavira Council provided logistical and financial support for this action by the Diocese of the Algarve.

There are around 700 young pilgrims in Tavira from Argentina, Canada, Colombia, South Korea, Northern Mariana Islands, Madagascar, Mexico, Mozambique, Uruguay, Zimbabwe and the Philippines.

Yesterday, the welcoming ceremony took place at Praça da República, presided over by the Bishop Emeritus of São Tomé and Príncipe, D. Manuel António, which was attended by the Mayor Ana Paula Martins.
