Quarteira and Vale do Lobo beaches closed to bathing

According to SIC, the decision, taken by the regional health delegate, is due to the "presence of fecal coliforms in the water"

The beaches of Quarteira and Vale do Lobo are prohibited for bathing, after water analyzes have "revealed microbiological values above the reference parameters", revealed this Tuesday, July 25, the Loulé Chamber.

In a note published on the website, the municipality explains that "local and regional entities with competences in these areas are taking all measures to restore normality".

According to SIC, the decision, taken by the regional health delegate, is due to the "presence of fecal coliforms in the water".

A source from the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) told this television station "that a new collection of samples has already been ordered from both beaches, as well as from the beaches of Albufeira for control".

Moreover, says SIC, the «origin of the fecal coliforms is unknown», since the «municipality of Loulé has no report of any malfunction in the sewer system that justifies what happened».
