Portimão, Silves and Tavira among the Municipalities where the State will lease houses to sublet

In total, the State will proceed with this measure in 16 Municipalities nationwide

Portimão, Silves and Tavira are part of the list of Municipalities where the State will lease houses and then sublease them to families and young people in a situation of greater housing vulnerability, confirmed today an official source.

The information, released today by Dinheiro Vivo, was confirmed to Lusa by a source in the Housing Minister's office, before Marina Gonçalves officially presented the measure, in a ceremony that will take place at Teatro Thalia, in Lisbon, this morning.

The 16 municipalities are Amadora, Cascais, Ílhavo, Lisbon, Marinha Grande, Oeiras, Portimão, Porto, Silves, Sintra, Tavira, Torres Novas, Vila do Bispo, Vila Franca de Xira, Vila Nova de Famalicão and Vila Nova de Gaia.

The same source added that affordable rents range between 250 and 900 euros per month (paying the State between 400 and 2.200 euros to owners).

The Government will launch a total of 320 lease contracts and the measure has a cost of 28,8 million until 2030.

The Arrendar para Subarrendar Program (PAS) is part of the Government's package of measures to combat the housing crisis.

With the objective of increasing the offer in the rental market, the State proposes to rent vacant houses to private individuals and then sublet them.

The rent paid to the landlord will have tax benefits provided that the contract has a duration of not less than five years and the amount of the rent complies with the prices and types provided for in the Affordable Lease Support Program (PAA).

Five months after the approval of the first version by the Council of Ministers, the More Housing program is going to the final global vote today in the Assembly of the Republic.
