Loulé will have more paid parking and maximum time in the center

New rules come into effect this week

The updates to the regulations that will bring new rules to paid parking in the city of Loulé and Vale do Lobo come into effect this week: the expansion of limited-term parking zones, the imposition of a maximum parking time limit and the creation of differentiated zones, according to the proximity of the urban center.

In the case of Loulé (Zone 01), in addition to the extension of the parking fee to new streets, two areas will be created.

A green area, corresponding to the streets of the city with less pressure, therefore more peripheral, where the opening hours, days of the week paid and benefits for residents will be maintained, as well as the tariff value of 0,80 euros/hour, and where there will be no maximum parking time.

On the other hand, in the red area, corresponding to the center of the city, which includes, for example, Praça da República or the first two signs on Avenida José da Costa Mealha, the parking meter operating hours policy will be the same. However, there will be an upward revision of parking prices (fee of 1,20 euros/hour), the definition of a maximum parking time (2 hours) and the beneficiaries of exemption from payment of fee as resident of the green area /city will not be allowed to park with fee-free parking in the red/downtown area.

In the case of Vale do Lobo (Zone 05), an area of the municipality of Loulé that is markedly touristic, in addition to increasing the number of integrated streets, the changes to the regulation make it possible to standardize the annual operating period for all streets (from 1 from June to 30 September).

With the new regulations, the Municipality of Loulé intends «to have consistency in the parking offer, promoting its rotation, safeguarding the parking of residents, avoiding abusive parking in places that are not yet taxed, thus promoting the attractiveness trade and the quality of life of citizens», he explains in a note.

Municipal officials believe that these measures are essential to «discipline parking in the center of cities and, at the same time, promote sustainable mobility, through the commitment to a quality offer of public transport or the use of bicycles in the daily movements of the population» .
