Iago Bebiano in 1st place on the podium, in K1 500m Sub23

Athletes from the Castores do Arade club from Lagos collected 44 medals in the National Line Regatta Championship, for Juniors, Seniors and Masters, which took place in Montemor-o-Velho, on the 1st and 2nd of July.

The highlight goes to Iago Bebiano, who became national champion in K1 500m Sub23 and won four more medals: a 2nd place in K2 500m, with Kevin Santos, a 3rd place in K1 500m Senior and a 2nd place in K1 200m Sub23.

Iago Bebiano, in the K1 500m, «demonstrated his great moment of form», when he shared the podium with two great athletes, the runner-up of the last European Games Fernando Pimenta, and João Ribeiro, both from Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

Kayak Clube Castores do Arade considers that its participation in the Championship was «epic», since, having registered 28 athletes, «everyone brought at least one medal».

«There were many months of preparation and a lot of work on the crews to present a competitive team».

K4 Masters A and B won 3rd place in the fotofinish, with times of 1.42.651 and 1.42.681 for the team from Arnelas, in Masters A, and 1.48.187 against 1.48.222 for the team from Vila do Conde, in Masters B.

«It was these few hundredths that allowed the Algarve team to win medals», although they were «moments of great expectation» while the four vessels awaited the official results. «Fortunately, in both crews, the fotofinish was favorable for the Castors team».

With the results achieved in Montemor-o-Velho, KCCA was the 8th national club in the ranking of juniors and seniors and 2nd in the ranking of masters.

The National Speed Championship ends on the 5th and 6th of August, with the athletes competing from 9 to 16.

The next competition will be the Campeonato Nacional de Esperanças III, in Gemeses, on the 9th of July, in which several national titles are up for grabs.
