EMARP teaches young people from Portimão to recycle

“Separating is easy” is the motto

The Municipal Water and Waste Company of Portimão (EMARP) will, until the 11th of August, promote recreational and educational activities, with the participants of the Summer Holidays, to promote good environmental practices.

The motto "Separating is easy", launched on World Recycling Day (May 17), as well as characters inspired by recyclable waste streams - Rafa (Glass), Papelina (Paper and cardboard), Cans (Plastic and metal) and Marafada (Orgânicos) were chosen this year to illustrate the sweaters of the Summer Holidays project and are the central theme of environmental awareness activities.

“Separating is easy” is essential to help the environment because it allows waste to be diverted from the landfill and enables the recycling process, which consists of transforming materials already used into new products.

This is one of the main ideas shared with children from 6 to 11 years old, through a game that consists of choosing the appropriate container for depositing the various types of waste that may or may not be recyclable.

The selective collection of organics is another of the topics addressed, where it is explained that it is also possible, in addition to plastic and metal, paper and cardboard, and glass, to separate food waste for recovery.

Finally, an appeal is made to small participants to pass the word on to their parents, join the project and collect a 7-litre bucket free of charge at EMARP for this purpose.
