Quarteira Boardwalk is once again the stage for artistic installations

Between July 6th and September 24th

Under the name “A Deriva Litoral”, the artistic installations by Ângelo Gonçalves and Nuno Viegas will be inaugurated this Thursday, July 6th, at Calçadão de Quarteira (next to Geladaria Roma), at 19 pm.

This is the third consecutive year that the Calçadão de Quarteira serves as a stage for artistic installations.

«Taking projects in the field of visual arts outside galleries and museums and seeking to establish contact with the informal public, in places of great affluence is also one of the purposes of this programme, which favors meetings», explains the Câmara de Loulé in a note.

For this edition, the Loulé municipality invited two artists who know the Algarve well to work on the theme “The Coastal Drift”, a phenomenon which, due to the interruption of its natural flow, is increasingly being reported for the worst reasons, «with results that affect our entire coastline”.

Coastal drift refers to coastal sea currents and waves, which are also responsible for transporting and depositing sediments, which contribute to the formation and supply of sand on beaches.

According to the person in charge of the installation, Miguel Cheta, «artists do not have the power to solve these phenomena, but they can and should question them through their proposals, while they disturb us».

The works can be seen until the 30th of September.
