AHRESP – Associação da Hotelaria, Restauração e Similares de Portugal reiterated today its “total disagreement with the legislative measures aimed at the activity of Local Accommodation (AL)”, after the approval of the “More Housing” package, this Wednesday , in Parliament.
AHRESP draws attention to the fact that the law now approved will « change the assumptions that guided the entry of entrepreneurs into this activity, namely through the reinforcement of the power of condominiums (when balanced mechanisms already existed in the law) and through the creation of a fee discriminatory'.
Considering that «the direct connection between the problem of housing shortages and LA is a strategic error, as it lacks an in-depth study of the reality of this activity», AHRESP understands that the approval of this new legislation will «cause the decrease of a activity that this year alone, between January and May, and only considering units with 10 beds or more, recorded an increase in income of 48% compared to last year, having contributed substantially to the growth of tourist activity».
The entry into force of the “More Housing” package will therefore have «a strong and negative impact on AL activity, since most establishments do not have the appropriate characteristics for their transition to the rental market».
AHRESP considers that «inevitably, the disappearance of many of these same establishments will lead to the destruction of thousands of direct and indirect jobs».
After having presented to the government, the parliamentary groups and the Housing Working Group, in a hearing in the Assembly of the Republic, its proposals to amend the More Housing Package, AHRESP regrets the outcome of this legislative process.
Always asserting itself «in defense of LA entrepreneurs», AHRESP assures that it will «continue to defend the sector, believing that this error can be corrected».
