The Lugares de Globalização Cultural Week returns on the 23rd of June, at Fortaleza de Sagres, with the launch of a book with the same name, a musical show and a tasting of Portuguese-speaking flavours.

This initiative comes after the two major events celebrating history, culture and heritage, held in 2018 e 2019, whose programming, lasting one week each, presented a rich programme, focused on the importance of the historical and cultural heritage in five municipalities in the Western Algarve (Lagos, Vila do Bispo, Aljezur, Monchique and Silves), with music, performing arts (dance, theater), videomapping in three great monuments, interpretive visits and a knowledge program with seminars.

The event scheduled for the 23rd at the Fortress of Sagres presents «a format different from the grandeur of the two previous editions, but which wishes to continue to promote the legacy of the “places” of the Territory of Intervention of Vicentina in a significant way, around its heritage resources , through the launch of the book “Semana Cultural Lugares de Globalização”», stresses the Vicentina Association, which promoted the project.

The book includes contents from the programming and communications of the seminars of the two editions carried out (2018 and 2019), aiming to demonstrate the richness of the historical and cultural heritage of the sub-region, in the context of Places of Globalization.

The book “Semana Cultural Lugares de Globalização”, which has the editorial coordination of the historian Rui Loureiro and financial support for publishing by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, is «a repository and testimony of the contributions that were made in the two Cultural Weeks promoted, on this sub-regional territory".

Sónia Felicidade, responsible for the organization of the Cultural Week at Associação Vicentina, points out, in statements to the Sul Informação, that «the project is inspired by the content of the candidacy for World Heritage to the National Commission of UNESCO, with the same name, submitted by the Algarve Tourism Board, in partnership with the Regional Directorate of Culture and the five municipalities in the territory», namely Lagos, Vila do Bispo, Aljezur, Monchique and Silves.

Although the Vicentina Association is not part of the entities promoting these World Heritage Sites of Globalization, «this is our contribution to this candidacy».

The project, adds Sónia Felicidade, «should have three Cultural Weeks with an intense schedule, but the pandemic ended up making the last of these weeks unfeasible». That is why it was decided to end with the launch of the book, a show and gastronomy, after being able to «reprogram this new model with CRESC Algarve», which it finances.

Thus, the event on the 23rd of June is organized in two parts, making it possible to participate in the entirety of the event. The book launch session, scheduled for 15 pm, will be followed by a musical show by Bossa & Morna, with a repertoire of influences from Brazilian, Portuguese and Cape Verdean music, and a tasting of gastronomic flavors from Lusophony, around some of the classics of Brazilian, Portuguese and Cape Verdean gastronomy.

The Vicentina Association states that it intends to «continue to contribute to affirming the Algarve by valuing its cultural and heritage values», as well as «promoting reflection on the diversification of the traditional functions of heritage and culture, in order to promote the creation and strengthening of innovative, creative and complementary economic activities".

Assessing what has been done, Sónia Felicidade guarantees that «the balance of the project is very positive, in view of the topics addressed, the number of partnerships achieved, the extensive and rich programming».

These Cultural Weeks were «a mark, a symbol, that we, Vicentina, want to continue to promote this legacy, but inserting it in contemporaneity, in terms of sustainable development, which must also be culturally sustainable», he adds.

The idea of this project was «to work on the cultural influences» that this territory, linked to the Discoveries or the Maritime Expansion, as you wish to call it, had in other parts of the world, but also received, «in terms of language, gastronomy, music , and which end up shaping our way of living and being», explains Sónia Felicidade.

It is a kind of going back and forth that is very typical of cultural exchanges, even more visible in a region like the Algarve which, «since the mid-XNUMXth century, but increasing in the XNUMXst century, has been a confluence of nationalities and people who bring other ideas and other experiences».

The Lugares de Globalização Cultural Week is a project co-financed by CRESC Algarve 2020, which results from the partnership of Associação Vicentina with the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, the Municipalities of Aljezur, Lagos, Monchique, Silves and Vila do Bispo and the Tourism Region from the Algarve.

Participation in the final session on the 23rd of June is free of charge. Entries can be made until the 19th of June, by clicking here.
