Portimão beaches hoist the Blue Flag for the 36th consecutive year

The Accessible Beach – Praia para Todos flag is also back

The beaches of Rocha, Três Castelos, Vau, Três Irmãos, Alvor and Marina de Portimão once again boast, since this Friday, June 16, the Blue Flag, a European symbol that reflects the fulfillment of criteria such as information and education environment, water quality, environmental management and equipment, as well as security and services.

The Marina of Portimão and the ecotourism boats “Sun Cat I – Algarve” and “Sun Boat I – Algarve” were also distinguished with the 2023 Blue Flag, both operated by the tourist company Sun Boat Trips, operating from the port of Portimão .

A qualitative award reserved for beaches, recreational ports and marinas, the Blue Flag has been hoisted on the beaches of Portimão since 1987 and, according to the local council, «will wave in the wind until the end of this bathing season, with the main objective of raising the level of raising awareness of the need to protect the marine and coastal environment».

The flag of Praia Acessível – Praia para Todos is also back on the beaches of Rocha, Vau, Três Irmãos, Alvor and Marina de Portimão, once again distinguished for fulfilling requirements such as easy pedestrian access, without obstacles for people with disabilities , orderly parking with reserved spaces for vehicles for people with reduced mobility, walkways over the sand and the existence of adapted toilet facilities, among other aspects.

This year, Praia da Rocha was once again awarded the Five Stars Region Prize, in terms of seaside resorts, revalidating the distinction achieved in previous editions by this evaluation system, which recognizes the best that exists and is done in the country in several areas.

Once again considered the main Algarve icon of its category in terms of national interest, Praia da Rocha extends over a kilometer and has a wide wooden walkway, recently replaced by the Municipality of Portimão in an investment of over one million euros. euros, along which several support infrastructures operate, such as restaurants, a multifaceted sports area and a playground.
